SUPER TYPHOON
WHAT is "SUPER TYPHOON" ?
A typhoon is a type of large storm system having a circular or spiral system of violent winds with a speed of over 74 miles per hour(mph). The winds spiral around a region of low atmospheric pressure.
"Typhoon" is the name of these storms that occur in the Western Pacific. "Hurricane" is the name given to these storms in the Atlantic Ocean and Eastern Pacific. In the Indian Ocean, they are called "Tropical Cyclones". So, Cyclones, hurricanes, and typhoons all form the same way, but their name changes depending on where they occur.
The solar energy which comes from the sun is the major reason to change the climate of earth.
With daily and seasonal changes because of the earth’s rotation around the sun, there has a change in temperature of earth. Also, it causes the heat imbalance between equators and poles or land and ocean.
To dissolve this imbalance, the typhoon moves from the low-latitudes to the high-latitudes accompanied by strong wind and rain. It has a important role to circulate the global energy and water.
Among the typhoons,
the most powerful is called "Super Typhoon".
It has winds of at least 67 meters per sec or 150 miles per hour.
If you see the figure showing the hurricane wind scale,
the super typhoon is included with the type of 4 and 5.

The Lifecycle of Typhoon
A typhoon’s birth can be divided into 4 steps namely:
1) Tropical Disturbance 2) Tropical Depression 3) Tropical Storm 4) Tropical Hurricane
1) Tropical Disturbance 2) Tropical Depression 3) Tropical Storm 4) Tropical Hurricane
4) Tropical hurricane
The storm turns into a highly organized hurricane as wind speeds exceed 74 mph. A relatively calm, cloud free zone called the eye appears at its center, surrounded by spiral rain bands. It is from this feature of the hurricane that English language has borrowed the phrase – “Calm before the storm” – which means a quiet period just before a period of great activity or excitement. |
